Nordiska Örter Field School
Join me to cultivate, harvest, collect wild herbs and process over 20 medicinal herbs while deepening your understanding of local, sustainable herbalism. This program is perfect for students and enthusiasts eager to connect with nature and explore the world of herbs.
About the program
Internship duration: A minimum of a month to 12-week sessions
When: From mid-April to October
Where: Nordiska Örter is located in Uppsala, within a historic park established in the 1860s in the Ulleråker district, with beautiful nature along the Fyrisån River. The herb garden is part of a newly established plant-based urban farm and café.

Hands-On Experience
Interns will gain a complete “farm-to-package” experience, including:
- Preparing garden beds with compost
- Managing weeds using wood chips and hand weeding
- Sowing seeds and planting
- Watering and tending to the herb garden
- Foraging wild herbs and processing them
- Harvesting, drying, and packaging herbs
- Maintaining garden records
- Filming content
Monthly classes
Every two weeks, classes will complement hands-on activities, covering topics such as:
- Foraging and plant identification
- Remedy making and herbal applications
- Plant communication and ecology
- Sustainable herbalism
Work Environment
Located within a urban vegetable farm, which includes a zero-waste, plant-based café, this program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge in herbal production while being in a friendly community.
Summer work is intensive and physically demanding, with tasks performed under direct sunlight.
Early mornings (start at 8:00) help mitigate the summer heat.
Ideal candidate
We seek motivated, self-driven individuals with a passion for herbalism and sustainable agriculture. Candidates should:
- Be in good physical condition to handle farm work
- Work well independently
- Have a proactive and flexible attitude
