Herbs Market Garden

Welcome to the herbs market garden, nestled within the historic Hospitalsträdgården in Uppsala. Dedicated togrowing vibrant herbs, it’s Sweden’s first herb farm of its kind anda place of educationto learn about herb uses, self-sufficiency, and natural healing.

Our values

Herbs Market Garden

The herb market garden has commitment to environmental sustainability. Using the no-dig method, we prioritize soil health and allowing the soil to regenerate over time. Healthy soil is essential for producing high-quality herbs and potent medicinal plants, as it provides the nutrients needed for optimal growth and synthesis of essential oils. In a thriving, regenerative soil system, beneficial microorganisms enhance nutrient uptake, promoting strong, aromatic herbs with maximum medicinal properties.

The herb garden is part of Ulleråker Gård, a no-dig, plastic-free, and plant-based vegetable urban farm. Growing herbs alongside vegetables encourages the presence of pollinators like bees and butterflies while also providing nectar for many other beneficial insects. This diversity of insects helps manage pests naturally, allowing using organic, chemical-free methods, promoting a healthy and resilient ecosystem without the need for harmful chemicals farming practices while contributing to the health of the local ecosystem.

Wild Foraging Practices

At Nordiska Örter, a selection of herbs is gathered in the wild nature around Uppsala. Our foraging site is located 40 minutes from Uppsala center, nestled 5 km into the forest away from the main road. The wild herbs are carefully picked to ensure sustainability and preserve the natural balance of the environment. This method provides unique and high-quality herbs that thrive in their natural habitat.

A Place for Education and Volunteering

Nordiska Örter mission goes beyond herb production and strives to be a center for education. At the herbs market garden, I host workshops that teach you how to grow herbs, forage for wild edible plants, and create natural remedies from their harvest. We also welcome volunteers to join in maintaining the garden, offering hands-on experiences in urban farming, harvesting and processing herbs from farm-to-package.

Education & Volunteering

For the season 2025, will be internship program possibilities in sustainable herbs production.
